Welcome Mwatipasa!
Young people can be the change they want to see in the world. It’s just that in many developing countries, young leaders do not always have the means to continue with their education and reach their potential. This is true in Malawi, as in many countries, where young people face challenges in supporting themselves and others while they pursue their education.
Last week, the team in Malawi honoured the origins of Watipa with the launch of Mwatipasa. Watipa’s name, 2 of our co-founders, and 14 of our inaugural scholars are from Malawi.
It has been a brilliant culmination of a year for Watipa, as we are getting ready to reflect on and renew the first scholarships…. and open up for applications for the second round. Watch this space for further information over the coming weeks!
Watipa scholarships support the Sustainable Development Goals, which provide a mandate to enable quality education, livelihoods and rights-based employment for all. We continue to combine research and consultancy services to sustain and provide resources for the scholarship programme. In 2018 we plan to extend this to include a formalised mentorship programme and pathways for young people to develop their employability skills and gain work experience. Young people are the leaders of today, and of tomorrow, and we are steadfast in our commitment to enabling young people to be and make the change they want to see in their communities.
