If we foster the agency of disadvantaged young people and help them be the change they want to see in their communities.
By facilitating mentorship connections, events and opportunities that support young people to create positive change in their communities and providing scholarships and living expense stipends for disadvantaged young people to attend university.
We will contribute towards achieving:
– Empowered young people leading community development initiatives
– Inclusive and empowering responses to local and international development challenges
– Strong and diverse community voices in community development, including the voices of young people
– Enhanced leadership for social impact
At Watipa, we believe that education has the power to transform lives and communities. Since 2016, our scholarship program has enabled more than 60 young people across sub-Saharan Africa learn how to become the leaders of the change they want to see in their cities, towns and villages.
Our scholarship program is funded through our consultancy services and generous donations. It covers the tuition costs and, in exceptional circumstances, the living expenses of our scholars.
In 2024, we have developed a vision for a Social Impact Leadership Academy. The Academy will be a new and excitingly unusual collaboration between regional Australia (Gumbaynggirr Country on the Mid North Coast of NSW in Australia), and partners in Malawi and Zambia to offer a Social Impact Leadership Academy. This would bring together the best ideas and learning from local, national and international development practices to support young leaders.
Convened with thought-leaders in social impact in Australia, the Academy would offer an opportunity to develop for-purpose leadership, governance, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and community development skills, co- facilitated by Australian community leaders and an international Faculty of Watipa’s expert professionals.
