Happy Holidays and Congratulations to the 2017 Watipa scholars

On 10th December, International Human Rights Day, Watipa joined thousands of others around the world in the celebration of Human Rights, as we stand strong in our commitment to making education more accessible to young leaders in developing countries.

We were proud to announce 15 new Watipa scholarships this year. The scholars will be profiled over the next few weeks and months on the Watipa website and through our blog. Please join us in congratulating them on their achievements so far, as well as celebrating what they will go on to achieve in the future.

We also would like to recognise the many strong applicants who unfortunately were not successful this year. They have given us inspiration to grow bigger in the future so that we can offer more scholarships to support deserving and visionary applicants. We also wish them well with their future endeavours.

We did it!
Thank you to everyone who generously supported Watipa – we achieved our goal of raising over £30,000 for the scholarship programme this year. Wow. Even just a few weeks ago, this seemed almost impossible. We are overjoyed that we achieved this milestone and were able to offer 15 new full scholarships this year while also continuing our support for the 2016 Watipa scholars.

The gift of – and the right to – education
Education is a human right; it should not be a privilege. Young people can be the change they want to see in the world. It’s just that in many developing countries, young leaders do not always have the means to continue with their education and reach their full potential.

This is central to our way of working at Watipa, as we contribute towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and boosting SDG4 in working to ensure inclusive and quality education for all. One of the specific targets under SDG4 is to substantially expand the number of scholarships available to people in developing countries by 2020. Watipa is contributing towards achieving SDG4 through our scholarship programme and youth development work.

As we reach the end of 2017, we wish you and your families every happiness and prosperity over the holiday season and into the New year and beyond. Thank you for your interest and support of Watipa.
