Key moments shape or break interactions between priority populations and healthcare workers, and subsequent decisions about accessing healthcare and acquiring knowledge about HIV, sexual health and other health-enabling information.
Through participatory story telling that will be co-produced with diverse communities in Northern New South Wales (NSW), we will curate a collection of community perspectives and recommendations for achieving person-centred care in our region.
In so-doing, we will amplify HIV-related and sexual health information in culturally safe and tailored messaging while also brokering collaborations with healthcare providers to inform and improve ideas for implementing person-centred care. The principles outlined in the Australian Consensus Statement on Person Centred Care (ASHM and NAPWHA 2023) offer an opportunity to improve the quality, cultural safety and accessibility of healthcare services for priority populations.
The project will build alliances between communities and healthcare organisations to learn and listen, and then to gather ideas for co-designing culturally safe and inclusive professional development materials (curriculum and approaches) for health workers.
We gratefully acknowledge the support for the project from ViiV Healthcare and the City of Coffs Harbour.
