Two new Alumni Coordinators are joining Watipa!

Watipa is excited to announce that Lydia Pakira and Elias Mwangi are joining our core team as the first Alumni Coordinators. Congratulations Lydia and Elias!

In this new staff position, Elias and Lydia will support engagement and connection with Watipa alumni, strengthen our online presence, and coordinate learning opportunities for Watipa scholars and alumni. They will also support the development of Watipa’s Social Impact Leadership Academy once we have secured some funds to progress that vision.

We had a tremendous amount of interest in the position and thank all the alumni who applied for their interest, commitment and vision for the future of Watipa.

Meet Lydia:
Lydia Pakira is Malawian, based in Blantyre city, Southern Malawi, and a Watipa alumni of the 2017 cohort. Lydia is a nutritionist by profession, who is passionate about nutrition research in understanding the role of food in disease prevention and promote quality of life for all people.
Currently, she is the Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Officer (NHAO) at Chiradzulu District Council where she coordinates interventions that promote good nutrition as well as interventions that promote health and well-being of people living with HIV.
Lydia aspires to work in global aspects of policy development and implementation to ultimately aid in health promotion.

Meet Elias:
Elias Mwangi is Kenyan, based in Mombasa, and a proud Watipa scholar (2017-2019). He pursued a Bachelor of Science in Building Civil Engineering (2014-2019) at the Technical University of Mombasa.
Elias is a civil engineer with a strong foundation in sustainable construction, structural engineering, and infrastructure development. Beyond his professional work, Elias is passionate about climate action, education, and community service, and actively engages in initiatives focusing on clean energy, environmental conservation, and mentorship. Through his work and advocacy, he strives to promote a greener, more sustainable future while empowering young people to realize their potential and create positive change in their communities.
