Hope

Watipa is hope.

We are a social enterprise working to enable equal societies, just development, and equal health for all. Drawing on decades of experience in national and international development, we aim to creatively and collaboratively work to catalyse change and advocate to maintain what works responding to the dynamics and current realities of different contexts around the world.

WatipaWatipa is named after a friend in the North of Malawi, a seven year old girl called Watipa, who embodies courage, determination and hope for a better, just and more equal future. In Tumbuka, her local language, Watipa literally means ‘has been provided for.’

Watipa was first registered, on 11 June 2016 as a Community Interest Company (10226833) in London, England. The evolution continued and in May 2017 Watipa was also registered as a charity (1173178) in England and Wales. In Australia, Watipa initially traded under Australian Business Number (ABN) 75480736771 in November 2021, before becoming registered as a Propriety Limited Company (ABN 39 667 584 170) and Company Limited by Guarantee with charitable status (ABN 53668809390) in 2023.

Watipa is founded on pillars of:

  • Intellectual excellence and lateral thinking
  • Innovations in programme implementation
  • Effective advocacy
  • Recognition of the power of communities
  • Learning from, listening to, and strengthening community participation
  • Agility and responsiveness

Our work centres on five main areas: consultancy, research, facilitation, education opportunities and scholarships.

We are an ethical company and aspire to be the change we want to see in the world, and to ‘walk the talk’ of the ethical and community driven approaches to community development that form the core of our work. To achieve this, we are a community interest company limited by shares, and 10% of all our profits will be invested in the scholarship, exchange and internship fund. We minimize our carbon footprint and have at-cost overhead rates.

  1. This is marvelous and looks at the future of those in need of advancement in life, let alone education. Yes, education is a key to success so far as modern development is concerned. Consultancy, research, facilitation, education opportunities and scholarships are real, realistic and worth to ficus on in order to reach and meet the objectives of Watipa CIC. The pillar on which Watipa CIC is founded are true to duty for the intended goals and objectives. It is our visualization that Watipa a girl born on 13th June 2008 will encourage her fellow girl children to focus on nothing but education above all. I am bound to do my best to see to it that the company grows next to the skies!
