12th August was declared international youth day back in 1999 at a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. A resolution of the Security Council in 2015 (S/RES/2250) recognised that as agents of change, young people’s inclusion is essential for building and sustaining peace. So how will you celebrate #YouthDay?

Here’s how two of Watipa’s scholars are spending #YouthDay:

In Tanzania, Aldo Sanga is visiting some orphans in his local area with some friends, to chat with them about their ideas, dreams for the future, and daily challenges they face. He is hoping that the visit will inspire more of his university friends to get involved.

In Malawi, Prudence Chavula has organised a sports event for youth to youth empowerment. Prudence has also been nominated for an award in the category of philanthropy and girl child education promotion – good luck Prudence, from us all at Watipa!

Get involved. Listen, learn from, and respect young people. #BeTheChange.
